Seamless Ceiling Solutions: Meeting Tight Specs, Tight Deadlines
Hospital Interventional Radiology Labs 1 & 2
PROJECT
Installation of the AirFRAME modular ceiling system in two Interventional Radiology Labs
WHAT WE DID
To meet a tight deadline and complex specs, KR Wolfe’s skilled technicians collaborated with the steel contractor to overcome ceiling constraints and deliver results for our client.
LOCATION
Jefferson Torresdale Hospital
Philadelphia, PA
COMPLETION DATE
7 days, November 2024
PROJECT INFORMATION
- Delivery of the system was challenging, requiring a forklift for offloading and breaking down 4 of the 8 pallets to fit through the doors and into the service elevator.
- Equipment was staged in each room where it was to be installed.
- Using Hilti lasers, drop rod layout was completed and marked on floor and ceiling. The team checked both floor and deck level using lasers.
- 5/8” drop rods were measured, cut to length, and installed.
- Each module was lowered onto 2 material lifts with chain hoists and brought to the ceiling simultaneously and installed to the drop rods.
- Once all modules were installed, the team bolted them together and used lasers and shims to ensure proper leveling.
- The units were completely caulked at all seams and bolt/washer location.
- The team installed the outside trim, riveted the interior framing, mounted damper diffusers, and cleaned the modules.
CHALLENGES
- Client was looking for qualified technicians available to install new ceiling system.
- Existing ceiling was waffle slab ceiling
- The waffle slab height was different across the rooms.
- The finished ceiling needed to be exactly 9’4” to accommodate the imaging vendor’s system, with the 14” deep AirFRAME fitting within a tight space of 14.25–15” from the finished ceiling to the deck.
- No steel in place to mount the system when we arrived onsite.
